![]() While the HiFiMan did look somewhat better, it looked kind of ugly from behind, and didn't have a convenient spot on my desk. My expectations were that the HiFiMan would sound better and look better on my desk while the Audioengine would be more easily transportable. They both seemed to fit my needs of a AMP/DAC combo in an attractive, small package. I looked at a lot of products and ended up trying this and the HiFiman EF2A. I also wanted it to look okay, but have a fairly small footprint. As I don't do critical listening at work, I didn't need the highest level of audio quality, but I needed something small and portable so that I could easily put it in my briefcase when leaving for the weekends, etc. I was looking for a work solution to drive my relatively low impedance headphones I use at work (Shure SRH840 and Grado SR225e), while also being able to feed my powered desktop speakers (BOSE companion II). The digital input no longer works and the device keeps switching on and off. If your budget is higher than that there are plenty of better options of course.ĮDIT. ![]() If you're looking for a good all-rounder DAC/amp under 200 bucks, you can't go wrong with this one. Keep in mind that the spdif input has the priority over the USB one if both are used.īut the only real downside is that it's only USB powered, so it won't drive headphones with high impedance (you can always buy a separate amp for those and connect it to the RCA outputs). Sometimes you need to switch it on and off if the spdif input isn't detected and you don't hear any sound. ![]() ![]() This is extremely useful with powered studio monitors for example. The device has pre-amped RCA outputs, so you can control the volume. ![]() On Windows 8.1 it's plug and play and works straight away. The sound is clean and crisp, with no distortion. I was looking for an upgrade for my laptop sound card, but this little dac/amp has so much more to offer. ![]()
